Replace the cylinder or the whole lock?
The cylinder, or barrel, is the part the key goes into. Replacing it is usually enough: you keep your lock and get new keys. The whole lock is replaced when the mechanism is damaged, or to gain security.
On a three-point lock, the cylinder set is replaced and the lock stays in place. Our high-security cylinders come with their keys and their card of ownership, which you need to have keys copied.
What to replace, depending on your situation
- Lost or stolen keys: replacing the cylinder is enough: the old keys no longer open the door.
- Moving in: replace the cylinder so that you are the only one with the keys.
- Broken key or stiff lock: we remove the key; if the mechanism is worn, we replace the cylinder or the lock.
- After a break-in: the lock often needs replacing, ideally with an A2P-certified model.
- More security: upgrade to a multipoint lock or a high-security cylinder.

The main types of lock

Should I replace the lock or just the cylinder?
After lost or stolen keys, or when you move in, replacing the cylinder is enough: the old keys no longer work. Replacing the whole lock makes sense if the mechanism is damaged, after a break-in, or to upgrade to a multipoint or A2P-certified lock.
How much does a high-security cylinder cost?

When should a lock be replaced?
After a break-in or an attempted break-in, when the key is stiff or turns badly, when a key has broken in the cylinder, or after losing your keys. It is also a chance to move to a more secure lock, multipoint or A2P-certified.
Which lock should I choose to secure a flat in Paris?
For a flat door, the best options are multipoint locks, with 3 to 9 points, and A2P-certified locks, recognised for their resistance to break-ins. The choice depends on the security level you want, your budget and sometimes the building’s rules.
