Keys left inside as you step out onto the quai d’Anjou, a lock that breaks on a Sunday morning on rue Saint-Antoine, a door forced in a courtyard on rue du Roi-de-Sicile: our locksmiths come at any hour, from one end of the 4th to the other. On the islands, parking is scarce: the locksmith sorts it out, so there’s nothing for you to arrange.

From the east end of Notre-Dame to the port de l’Arsenal

The 4th is made up of four administrative quarters: Notre-Dame, which covers the Île Saint-Louis and the eastern part of the Île de la Cité, Saint-Gervais, Saint-Merri and the Arsenal. We come out to any address in them, homes and shops alike.

The islands: Saint-Louis and the Cité

The Île Saint-Louis was built almost in one go in the 17th century: grand townhouses, wooden staircases, tall front doors, sometimes askew after four centuries. On the Île de la Cité, around Notre-Dame, rue Chanoinesse and rue des Ursins have houses that are older still. For these doors, the made-to-measure options are explained on our security door in Paris 4 page.

  • Rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
  • Quai d’Anjou
  • Quai de Béthune
  • Quai de Bourbon
  • Quai d’Orléans
  • Rue des Deux-Ponts
  • Rue Chanoinesse
  • Quai aux Fleurs

Saint-Gervais and rue des Rosiers

Behind the Hôtel de Ville, the church of Saint-Gervais and the half-timbered houses of rue François-Miron open onto the southern Marais: rue des Rosiers, rue des Écouffes, rue Vieille-du-Temple. Small flats, shops and restaurants share old buildings here, often looking onto a courtyard.

  • Rue François-Miron
  • Rue des Rosiers
  • Rue des Écouffes
  • Rue Vieille-du-Temple
  • Rue du Roi-de-Sicile
  • Rue Pavée
  • Rue de Rivoli
  • Rue du Bourg-Tibourg

Saint-Merri, from Beaubourg to the Hôtel de Ville

Around the Centre Pompidou, the Stravinsky Fountain and the Tour Saint-Jacques, the area mixes reworked medieval buildings, the art galleries of rue Quincampoix and the department store on rue de Rivoli. Many homes here are small and rented: changing the cylinder for each new tenant is still a good habit.

  • Rue Quincampoix
  • Rue Saint-Martin
  • Rue de la Verrerie
  • Rue des Lombards
  • Rue Saint-Merri
  • Rue du Renard
  • Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville

The Arsenal, Saint-Paul and the Bastille

The Hôtel de Sully, the Village Saint-Paul and its antique dealers, the Lycée Charlemagne, the quai des Célestins and the quai Henri-IV: the area mixes grand townhouses, Haussmann-era buildings on boulevard Henri-IV and shops on rue Saint-Antoine, whose metal shutters we also repair.

  • Rue Saint-Antoine
  • Rue Saint-Paul
  • Rue Charlemagne
  • Rue de Sully
  • Boulevard Henri-IV
  • Quai des Célestins
  • Rue Beautreillis
  • Boulevard Bourdon

Across the Seine, the 5th begins; to the north, the Marais continues into the 3rd: you’ll find both on our locksmith Paris 5 and locksmith Paris 3 pages.

Locksmith in the 4th: questions and answers

Your situation isn’t on this list? Explain it to us on the phone and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Do you cover the Île Saint-Louis and the Île de la Cité?

Yes, on the whole of the Île Saint-Louis and in the part of the Île de la Cité that belongs to the 4th, around Notre-Dame. Tell us the quai, the number and the floor: along the quais, the entrances look very much alike.

Can a security door be fitted in a 17th-century building?

Yes, but rarely an off-the-shelf door: the openings are often out of square and of unusual sizes. We take precise measurements and have the door made to measure, or reinforce the existing door. We explain these solutions on our security door in Paris 4 page.

How much does it cost to open a locked door in the 4th?

During the day, opening a standard locked door costs €135 incl. VAT; a security door, €149. If the door has only been slammed shut, it’s €119. In the evening and at night, the surcharge is given together with the price.

My surface-mounted lock is very old: does it need replacing?

If it locks properly, you can keep it and change only its cylinder, or replace it with a model of the same size so as not to leave marks on the door. The options are described on our lock change in Paris 4 page.

Do you do call-outs for shops on rue Saint-Antoine and rue des Rosiers?

Yes: shop doors, stockroom locks and metal shutters, day and night, and at weekends.

The building’s main door is locked at night: what do you do?

Give us the code when you call. If there isn’t one, or if you’re stuck outside, wait for us in front of the building: once there, we’ll find a way in with you, with the agreement of the caretaker or a neighbour if need be.
