Locksmith in Paris 11, from République to Nation

Faubourg Saint-Antoine workshops converted into lofts, apartment buildings on boulevard Voltaire, the bars of Oberkampf and rue de Lappe: the 11th is one of the most densely populated arrondissements in Paris, and its doors date from every era. Our locksmiths cover it 24/7, with the price agreed on the phone before they set off: expect €119 incl. VAT for a door that has simply slammed shut.

Locked out in the 11th: a locksmith day and night

Keys left on the table while you took the rubbish down, a door slamming behind you as you come home from a concert, a cylinder jammed on a Monday morning: wherever you are in the 11th, from rue du Faubourg-du-Temple to place de la Nation, a locksmith calls you back and sets off.

On the phone, tell us the floor, the door code for the building’s street entrance and, if you know it, the make of the lock. You are given the price incl. VAT before the locksmith leaves, and you receive a detailed invoice at the end of the job.

Nights and weekends

After 8 pm, the daytime rate goes up by 30% until midnight, then by 50% until morning. On Saturdays and Sundays during the day, the weekday rate still applies.

A single-point lock? Upgrade to three points

In the small buildings of the faubourg and the courtyards off rue de Charonne, many doors still close with a single-point lock, sometimes backed up by a surface-mounted deadbolt. A three-point lock secures the door at the top, middle and bottom: it holds out much better against a jemmy.

Depending on the thickness and condition of the door, we fit a three-point lock, surface-mounted or mortice, with a security cylinder. Models, prices and the points to check before choosing are all on our lock change in Paris 11 page.

The four neighbourhoods of the 11th

Folie-Méricourt, Saint-Ambroise, Roquette and Sainte-Marguerite: from the covered canal beneath boulevard Richard-Lenoir to the area around Nation, we work at every address in 75011, whether homes, workshops or shops.

Folie-Méricourt, between République and Belleville

Around rue Jean-Pierre-Timbaud and avenue Parmentier, modest old working-class buildings stand alongside grander ones near place de la République. Homes here are often small, up narrow staircases; when keys are lost, a new cylinder is enough in most cases.

  • Avenue Parmentier
  • Rue de la Folie-Méricourt
  • Rue Saint-Maur
  • Rue du Faubourg-du-Temple

Saint-Ambroise, around boulevard Voltaire

The church of Saint-Ambroise marks the centre of the neighbourhood, between boulevard Voltaire and boulevard Richard-Lenoir, where the marché Popincourt is held. Its period apartment buildings have handsome wooden front doors: door reinforcement strengthens them without changing how they look from the stairwell.

  • Rue Popincourt
  • Rue du Chemin-Vert
  • Rue Saint-Sébastien

La Roquette, from the Bastille to the town hall

Rue de Lappe, cour Damoye, passage Thiéré: a stone’s throw from the Bastille, courtyards and passages are home to workshops, bars and flats, often at ground level. Further up, rue de la Roquette climbs towards place Léon-Blum and the town hall of the 11th. For doors that open onto a courtyard, see our security door in Paris 11 page.

Sainte-Marguerite, the furniture makers’ quarter

Along the faubourg Saint-Antoine, the cour de l’Étoile-d’Or and the passage de la Main-d’Or recall the cabinetmakers who worked there. Their workshops have become lofts, design studios and homes, with non-standard doors that we open, secure or replace with made-to-measure ones, right up to the area around Nation.

Ground floors and workshops: reinforcing the door

A ground-level home on a courtyard is barely visible from the street, but a door under attack there is also out of sight: it has to hold. Depending on its condition, we reinforce it on site or fit an A2P-certified security door, made to measure for workshop openings.

We also look at what surrounds the door: the frame, the threshold, the hinges on the courtyard side. Our free, detailed quote compares the two options.

What to check on a courtyard door

  • The hinges: on the outside, they must be protected so the door cannot be lifted off.
  • The door frame: a tired wooden frame is replaced along with the door.
  • The lock: three points at the very least, five or seven for a ground floor.

Locksmith in the 11th: what people ask us

Another question? Ask us on the phone, at any hour.

Door slammed shut in the 11th: how much does it cost?

€119 incl. VAT during the day, weekends included. If the door is locked, expect €135, or €149 for a security door. In the evening and at night, you are told the surcharge before we set off.

My home opens onto a courtyard: do I need a security door?

Not necessarily: if the door and its frame are sound, door reinforcement with a multipoint lock already gives real protection. A security door makes sense when the door is damaged, or when the opening is a non-standard size, as in many former workshops.

My door has a lock and a deadbolt: do I need to change everything?

Not necessarily. A three-point lock often replaces both, with a single key to lock everything. If you want to keep the deadbolt, we can key both cylinders alike so that one key opens them.

Do you work in bars and restaurants at night?

Yes: back door, stockroom lock or metal shutter, we come after closing time if that suits you best. For shutters, see the metal shutters in Paris 11 page.

Where do your locksmiths set off from?

From our office, in the west of Paris, which is not open to the public. They come to you, anywhere in 75011, from République to Nation.

Can I get a lost security key replaced?

Yes, provided you have the card of ownership supplied with the lock: without it, most manufacturers refuse to make a copy. Duplicates can be ordered on our key copying page.
