BP1, BP2 or BP3: which certification level should you choose?

A2P certification, issued by the CNPP, measures how long a door withstands an attempted break-in. The higher the level, the heavier and more expensive the door.

What goes into a certified security door

A security door is not just a steel door: it is a laboratory-tested assembly, from the frame to the lock.

Exploded view of a Picard security door: frame, steel sheets, insulation and multipoint lock
Exploded view of a Picard Diamant EI30 security door (image: Picard Serrures).

It is the whole assembly that is A2P-certified: the frame, the leaf and the lock have been tested together. A door described as a “security door” but without certification does not offer this guarantee, and your insurer may not recognise it.

The parts of a certified door

  • A steel frame fixed into the wall: it takes the brunt of crowbar attacks.
  • A sheet-steel leaf, stiffened with omega profiles, 72 to 92 mm thick depending on the model.
  • Insulation, rock wool and plasterboard, against noise and cold; fire-rated as an option on some models.
  • Hinges and anti-lift pins, so that the door cannot be lifted off its hinges.
  • An A2P-certified multipoint lock, with 3 to 9 locking points depending on the model.
  • Perimeter seals, against draughts and noise from the landing.

Frequently asked questions about security doors

Torn between two models? Send us a photo of your door: we will advise you free of charge.

How much does a security door cost in Paris?

At La Clé du 16, a certified security door starts at €3,250 incl. VAT with the Bloc parisien simple BP1. The price of each model is shown on its product page; it then depends on the dimensions, the finish and the options. The measuring visit and the quote are free.

Which security door brands do you install?

Mainly Picard Serrures, the brand we install most often: the Diamant 10, 20, 30 and EI30, and the Diamant double vantaux. We also install Tordjman Métal (Rmetic) and Fichet (Spheris, Foxeo) doors, as well as our Bloc parisien, fitted with a Picard lock.

Which security door gives the best sound insulation?

According to the manufacturers, the Picard Diamant 30 achieves 47 dB; the Fichet Spheris HiS and XP, 45 dB; the Diamant 20, 42 dB; and the Diamant 10 and Diamant EI30, 40 dB. The Bloc parisien is between 30 and 35 dB. If noise from the landing bothers you, choose “The best possible” in the door advisor.

Security door or door reinforcement: which to choose?

Door reinforcement strengthens your existing door: it is the most affordable solution if the door is in good condition. A security door replaces it with a new door set that insulates better. In between, the Bloc parisien is a new door with a period look.

Are there fire-rated security doors?

Yes. The Picard Diamant EI30 is fire-rated EI2 30 (EI2 45 with a tubular frame), in addition to its A2P BP1 certification. The Diamant 10 and 20 are available with an optional EI2 30 fire rating, the Diamant 30 with an optional EI1 30 rating, and Fichet doors are rated EI2 30 with certain frames. Some buildings require a fire-rated front door: check with the building manager.

Do you offer double-leaf security doors?

Yes, for the wide entrances of Haussmann-era buildings: the Bloc parisien double vantaux, A2P BP1 or BP3 certified, with a made-to-measure wooden face, and the Picard Diamant double vantaux, A2P BP1 certified. If your double door is in good condition, we can also reinforce it without replacing it.

And for a cellar?

We install L’ÉCO by Valente Securystar: a made-to-measure steel cellar door set with a three-point A2P* lock (top and bottom), A2P BP1 certified with the optional BP1 pack. Ventilation can be added for a wine cellar.

What is the warranty on a security door?

Picard Serrures guarantees its security doors for ten years, subject to its terms. For Fichet and Tordjman Métal, the manufacturer’s warranty depends on the model and on their terms: we will tell you which one applies to your door. Installation by La Clé du 16 is guaranteed for five years. Keep the invoice and the keys’ card of ownership.

How does installation work?

We take the measurements at your home, then the door is made to your measurements: usually three to four weeks for a Picard door. Installation takes one day, and by that same evening the door locks. Full details on our security door installation in Paris page.
