Door opening: the price by time of day
The daytime rate applies from 6 am to 8 pm, every day, weekends included. From 8 pm to midnight it goes up by 30%; from midnight to 6 am, by 50%. Travel within Paris is included.

Slammed door: no damage to the lock
The door closed without the bolt being thrown. We open it without damaging the door or the lock, and you can use your keys again straight away. See also our slammed door in Paris page.
Locked door: the cylinder needs replacing
The bolt is thrown: the cylinder usually has to be drilled to open the door. It then needs replacing, and you are told its price before any work: see cylinder prices.
Students: a small discount may be applied on presentation of valid proof of student status.

Lock or cylinder replacement: our prices
After lost keys, a move or an attempted break-in, we replace the cylinder alone or the whole lock. The price depends on the brand, the dimensions and the security level; you are told it before any work, and it stays the same on bank holidays.
Original or compatible parts: the choice changes the price. Your home insurance may require an A2P-certified lock; check your policy before choosing the level.

The price we quote is the price you pay
You are given the price by phone, or on WhatsApp from a photo, before the locksmith sets off. If the door turns out to be different on site, you approve the new price before any work.

What does a locksmith cost in Paris on average?
At La Clé du 16, a door opening costs €119 incl. VAT during the day for a slammed door and €135 for a locked door, with travel included within Paris. Replacing a cylinder costs from €90 and fitting a three-point lock from €320. The price depends on the door, the lock and the time of day; you are always told it before we set off.
How much does a locksmith cost at night in Paris?
The daytime rate goes up by 30% from 8 pm to midnight and by 50% from midnight to 6 am. For a slammed door, allow €155 incl. VAT in the evening and €179 after midnight; for a locked door, €176 and €203.
Is it more expensive at weekends?
No. On Saturdays and Sundays, from 6 am to 8 pm, the rate is the same as on weekdays; only call-outs between 8 pm and 6 am cost more. We also work on bank holidays, and a bank holiday does not change the price of a lock change.
Is travel included in the price?
Yes. Within Paris, our prices include the locksmith’s travel: there is no extra call-out charge.
Is the quote free?
Yes. The quote is free and is given to you before any work, as French law has required of locksmiths since 2017.
Why does a locked door cost more than a slammed door?
A slammed door can be opened without touching the lock. When the bolt is thrown, the cylinder usually has to be drilled and then replaced: opening costs €135 incl. VAT during the day for a standard door and €149 for a security door, and the new cylinder is priced before any work.
How much does it cost to replace a cylinder?
From €90 incl. VAT for a European cylinder, fitting included. To keep your lock, our RB-Locks Locxis compatible cylinders cost from €165 to €435 excluding fitting, depending on the model: Vachette, Fichet, Bricard, Picard… Send us a photo of the lock for an exact price.
How much does a security door cost in Paris?
Our certified security doors start at €3,250 incl. VAT with the Bloc parisien simple BP1, and at €3,650 incl. VAT for a Picard Diamant 10 (BP1). Reinforcing an existing door starts at €2,690. The quote is free: request a security door quote.
Can my insurance cover the call-out?
Often, depending on your policy: after a break-in or an attempted burglary, and sometimes after lost or stolen keys. We give you an itemised invoice to send to your insurer.
How can I be sure I will pay the price I was quoted?
Ask for a firm price before the locksmith sets off, then a written quote before any work: it is compulsory. Check the company’s real address and its Google reviews.
