Our locksmiths in the neighbourhoods of the 7th

Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin, Les Invalides, École-Militaire and Gros-Caillou: four neighbourhoods, from the Musée d’Orsay to the Eiffel Tower, where we work in flats as well as offices and shops.

Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin, around rue du Bac

From the Musée d’Orsay to the Bon Marché, the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Germain is lined with private mansions, old buildings and shops. Front doors here are often period originals: we favour door reinforcement, which keeps them intact on the landing side, and locks of the same size.

Les Invalides and rue de Varenne

Between the Hôtel des Invalides, the Musée Rodin and the Assemblée nationale, ministries and embassies stand alongside large flats. We work here discreetly, by appointment or in an emergency, whether for a door opening or a lock that needs changing.

École-Militaire and Fontenoy

Around the École Militaire and place de Fontenoy, late 19th-century buildings have tall front doors and, often, a service staircase. We secure both entrances, so that the service entrance does not remain the flat’s weak point.

Gros-Caillou, between rue Cler and the Eiffel Tower

On rue Cler and rue Saint-Dominique, shops and cafés keep pace with neighbourhood life; on avenue Rapp and avenue Bosquet, mansion blocks, some of them Art Nouveau, have large double doors. We handle call-outs for the former and reinforce doors for the latter, all the way to quai Branly.

Security locks for the period doors of the 7th

A hundred-year-old oak door deserves better than a hastily fitted lock. We choose models that suit the thickness and height of period doors, surface-mounted or mortice, A2P-certified when the door allows.

For the service staircase door, which is often forgotten, see our lock change in Paris 7 page: we explain there how to bring it up to the level of the main entrance.

Period doors in the 7th: reinforcement or a new door

On the landing side, a door in the Faubourg Saint-Germain is part of the building’s décor. Reinforcement strengthens it without changing anything about its appearance; when it is too badly damaged, a made-to-measure security door reproduces its proportions and mouldings.

Moulded double security door, brass handles.

Double-leaf entrances, common around the Champ-de-Mars, can be reinforced or replaced with an A2P BP3-certified double-leaf security door. We take the measurements on site, and the quote is free.

Before you decide

  • Look at the door frame: if the frame is sound, reinforcing the existing door is usually enough.
  • Remember the service door: it must be protected to the same level.
  • Check the building rules: the co-ownership may regulate how the door looks on the landing side.

Locksmith Paris 7: frequently asked questions

Can’t find your situation? A locksmith will answer on the phone, day and night.

Do you work on period doors without damaging them?

That is our priority in the 7th, where many doors are period originals. To open a door, we always start with non-destructive techniques; to secure it, we prefer reinforcement or a lock of the same size, which leave the door intact on the landing side.

My building has a caretaker: should I let them know?

It is not compulsory, but it makes things simpler: they can open the carriage entrance for us if you are waiting outside, and show us the right staircase. Give us their name or the door code when you call.

Can the locksmith come at a set time?

Yes, by appointment for a lock change, door reinforcement or a measuring visit. In an emergency, you are given the arrival time on the phone, along with the price.

Do you do service staircase doors?

Yes, and we recommend it: a poorly secured service door cancels out the effect of a reinforced front door. See our lock change in Paris 7 page.

How much does it cost to open a security door that has slammed shut?

€129 incl. VAT during the day, on weekdays and at weekends alike. If it is locked, allow €149. Evening and night rates are given to you on the phone, before we set off.

While waiting for the locksmith, what should I do about a key broken in the lock?

Don’t try to remove the broken piece with a paper clip: it could slip further into the cylinder. Keep the part left in your hand, as it can be used to cut a copy. How we handle it is explained on our broken key in the lock page.
