Security door and door reinforcement in Paris 4

Thick walls, out-of-square openings, doors taller or narrower than standard: in the old buildings of the 4th, a security door is almost always made to measure. We take the measurements at your home and have the door made to your dimensions. Free quote.

The buildings of the 4th and their doors

Four centuries of architecture follow one another between the islands and the Bastille; the security door has to meet the constraints of each period.

The grand townhouses of the Île Saint-Louis

Wide, tall openings, very thick walls, floors that are no longer level: the door and its frame are made to the measurements taken on site.

Old houses of Saint-Gervais

On rue François-Miron or rue du Pont-Louis-Philippe, doors are sometimes lower than standard and partition walls more fragile: we adapt the frame and its fixings to the structure.

Boulevard Henri-IV and quai des Célestins

Haussmann-era buildings with doors of more regular sizes: an off-the-shelf security door, such as the Picard Diamant 20, often suits them.

Vaulted cellars of Saint-Paul and the Marais

Beneath the old buildings, vaulted cellars serve as stockrooms or wine stores; a security cellar door is a worthwhile replacement for the old wooden door.

A security door made to exact measurements

An off-the-shelf door assumes a straight opening of standard size. When that isn’t the case, there are two routes: reinforce the existing door, or have a security door set made to the dimensions taken at your home.

Manufacturers such as Tordjman Métal make A2P-certified, made-to-measure security doors whose frame makes up for a wall that is out of plumb. Measuring is the key step: we take the width, height and thickness at several points, so that the door closes properly once fitted. The stages of the work are set out in the quote.

What we measure

  • Plumb: a leaning wall is compensated for in the frame, not in the door.
  • Wall thickness: it sets the depth of the frame and the architraves.
  • Floor level: a suitable threshold bar avoids a gap under the door.

Security doors in old buildings: your questions

Before our visit, a photo of the entrance and a rough measurement of its width help us prepare the options.

My door isn’t straight: can a security door still close?

Yes, provided the frame is dealt with: it is the frame that makes up for the wall being out of plumb, while the door itself stays straight. On a very irregular opening, made to measure is a must.

Does the paintwork or woodwork need touching up after fitting?

A made-to-measure door fits the opening, but the architraves around it, on the landing side as well as inside the flat, may need touching up. We state this in the quote, so you know what remains to be done.

How much does a made-to-measure security door cost in the 4th?

The price depends on the dimensions, the level of certification and the finishes: the table gives starting prices, and the free quote follows the measuring visit. For a door in good condition, reinforcement starts at €2,690 incl. VAT.

Can a vaulted cellar be made secure?

When the cellar door is made of old wood, it is better to replace it with a security cellar door, sized to fit the opening. It closes with a security lock and protects the wine store or stockroom.
