Security door and door reinforcement in Paris 18

On the slopes of Montmartre and in the old buildings of the 18th, the staircase often makes the decision: a security door set is heavy and has to get round every turn. We check access when we measure up, then suggest reinforcement or an A2P security door, depending on what can be carried up. Free quote.

Staircases in the 18th: what we come across

From one neighbourhood to the next, staircases vary in width and doors come with different constraints.

The Butte Montmartre

Small old buildings, spiral staircases, top floors under the eaves: door reinforcement, fitted piece by piece, solves the access problem here. House and studio doors are dealt with case by case.

  • Rue Lepic
  • Rue des Abbesses
  • Rue Ravignan
  • Rue Gabrielle

Clignancourt and Jules-Joffrin

Larger apartment buildings built for letting, sometimes with a lift added to the stairwell: the remaining space is measured before a complete security door is ordered.

  • Rue Custine
  • Rue Ordener
  • Rue Hermel
  • Rue du Poteau

Goutte-d’Or and Château-Rouge

19th-century buildings with narrow staircases and original front doors, often thin: reinforcement or a BP1 security door, depending on the condition of the door and its frame.

  • Rue Myrha
  • Rue Polonceau
  • Rue Doudeauville
  • Rue Stephenson

La Chapelle and Chapelle International

In recent residential buildings, lifts and wide landings make it easier to fit a complete security door, which replaces the original door with no access problems.

Door reinforcement, fitted piece by piece

Door reinforcement is delivered in parts: steel sheet, angle bars, threshold bar, multipoint lock. Everything goes up the stairs, however narrow, and is fixed to your door in a single visit.

Door reinforcement Paris 18: the moulded door and its surface-mounted lock, before work
A moulded door fitted with a surface-mounted lock, then the same door reinforced. Move the slider to see both.

Your door keeps its size and position; it gains steel protection and an A2P-certified lock, for a budget well below that of a new door. To compare the two options, read our article security door or door reinforcement.

A complete security door, when it can be carried up

If the staircase allows, a security door replaces both door and frame in one piece. It takes several people to carry it and enough clearance at the turns: we check this before suggesting it to you.

For non-standard openings, the made-to-measure Tordjman Métal Rmetic door is built to the exact dimensions of the entrance. In other cases, a Picard Diamant 10 or a Fichet Foxeo S, both A2P BP1-certified, provides serious protection.

On installation day

  • Your neighbours: let them know, the staircase will be in use for a while.
  • The old door: we remove it and take it away.
  • The finishing: touched up around the frame if needed.

Security doors and narrow staircases: your questions

Send us a photo of the door and another of the staircase: we will tell you whether a complete door can get through.

Will a security door fit up a narrow staircase?

Often, but not always: the door set is heavy and rigid, and some turns are too tight. We measure the staircase during our visit; if the door will not get through, we reinforce your existing door instead.

Does door reinforcement protect as well as a security door?

A good reinforcement, with an A2P multipoint lock, makes a sound door much stronger. A security door certified BP1 to BP3 goes further, because the whole structure, frame included, has been tested as a unit. The choice depends on your door and on access.

Does installation take longer in a building with no lift?

A little, because of the climb. A reinforcement is fitted in one visit, and so is a security door; we agree the time with you and let you know if the staircase will be obstructed for a while.

Reinforcement or a door: how much should I budget?

On the quote, the Picard Diamant 10 (A2P BP1) starts at €3,650 incl. VAT, and reinforcing your existing door at €2,690 incl. VAT. The quote is free and drawn up after the visit.
