Locks chosen to suit the building

From quai de Conti to boulevard du Montparnasse, the doors of the 6th share neither the same thickness nor the same history: the lock is chosen accordingly.

Around Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Upmarket apartments behind oak doors: here we fit three-star mortice locks, set into the thickness of the door and almost invisible from the landing.

  • Rue Bonaparte
  • Rue Jacob
  • Rue de l’Abbaye
  • Rue du Dragon

Odéon and Saint-Sulpice

Many original surface-mounted locks are still in place here. When the door is thick enough, we replace them with a certified multipoint lock; if not, with a high-security surface-mounted lock, fixed in the same holes.

  • Rue de Tournon
  • Rue Servandoni
  • Rue Férou
  • Rue Garancière

Vavin and Notre-Dame-des-Champs

Artists’ studios and ground floors on courtyards, more exposed than an upper floor: here we recommend a three-star (A2P***) lock and a cylinder protected against forced extraction.

  • Rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs
  • Rue Vavin
  • Rue Bréa
  • Rue de la Grande-Chaumière

Buci and Saint-André-des-Arts

Shops on the ground floor, homes above: for the shops, we change glass-door locks and storeroom cylinders; on the upper floors, we replace worn-out cylinders with protected-key cylinders.

  • Rue de Buci
  • Rue Saint-André-des-Arts
  • Rue Grégoire-de-Tours
  • Rue de l’Ancienne-Comédie

One-, two- or three-star A2P: which should you choose?

The A2P label, awarded by the CNPP, grades locks by how long they hold out against a break-in attempt during testing: about five minutes for one star, ten for two, fifteen for three. That time is often what deters a burglar.

For an ordinary front door, a one-star lock already provides real protection. For an exposed apartment, a ground floor or a valuable interior, we recommend two or three stars, with a protected-key cylinder. Our locksmiths fit every lock themselves, at the price given before the job.

The right level for the door

  • One star: front door in a building with a caretaker, on a moderate budget.
  • Two stars: ground floors, studios, apartments often left empty.
  • Three stars: high-value interiors, collections, sensitive offices.

A2P locks in the 6th: your questions

Send us a photo of the edge of your door: its thickness already tells us which models are possible.

Is a three-star lock suitable for every door?

No: it needs a door that is thick enough and a solid frame. On a light old door, it would be stronger than the door itself; in that case, we suggest reinforcing the door at the same time.

My insurer requires an A2P lock: which one should I have fitted?

Reread your policy: it often specifies the number of stars required, sometimes with a number of locking points. We fit the matching model and give you an invoice that states the certification.

Can I keep my current keys with a new lock?

Only by keeping the cylinder, which is only worthwhile if it is recent and of good quality. Most of the time, a new lock comes with a new cylinder and new keys.

Does changing a multipoint lock take long?

It depends on the door: replacing a lock with a model of the same format is quick, whereas switching from a surface-mounted lock to a mortice lock means cutting into the door. We tell you this at the same time as the price.
