Between tenants, a new cylinder
A departing tenant hands back their keys, but not necessarily the copies they had cut. Replacing the cylinder at the inventory check settles the question: the new occupant receives keys that nobody else has.
Single-point lock: a high-security Euro profile cylinder does the job. On a Vachette or Pollux three-point lock, we change the set of cylinders without touching the rest. For a flatshare, allow for as many keys as occupants: we hand them over with the cylinder. For any other case, see our page on lock change in Paris.
For landlords
- At the check-out inventory: collect all the keys, including those for the cellar and the bike store.
- On move-in day: have the new cylinder fitted before handing over the keys.
- The invoice: keep it with the tenancy agreement, as it dates the change.

- Attempted break-in in the buildingReinforced cylinder, or even an A2P-certified lock.
Landlords and tenants in the 5th: your questions
A photo of the lock, taken from inside, often lets us give you a price straight away.
Who pays for the lock change, the landlord or the tenant?
Between two tenancies, it is usually the landlord, who wants to be sure the previous occupant no longer has keys. During the tenancy, a tenant who loses their keys or wants a new cylinder pays for it. If in doubt, check what your tenancy agreement says.
Can the new cylinder be fitted during the inventory check?
Yes, it is actually the ideal moment: the property is empty, and the new occupant gets their keys straight away. Let us know the day before: we come at the agreed time with the right cylinder for the lock.
Can the front door and the cellar be opened with the same key?
Often, if both locks take the same cylinder model. The letterbox, on the other hand, keeps its own key: its lock is a different type.
An agency manages several studios: can you work for it?
Yes. We work by appointment, with an invoice in the name of the landlord or the agency, and can do several properties back to back on the same day.
