Locksmith Montrouge, from the Beffroi to place Jules-Ferry

Around avenue de la République, the centre brings together the town hall, the Beffroi on place Émile-Cresp, the former administrative centre dating from 1934, and the Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church, a listed historic monument. The Mairie de Montrouge station on line 4 opens between rue Gabriel-Péri and place du Maréchal-Leclerc. On rue Gutenberg, a whole row of buildings is protected. In these older buildings, opening a door slammed shut is usually done without damage.

To the west, towards Malakoff and Châtillon, the Haut-Mesnil was largely formed on land taken over from Châtillon and Bagneux in 1875; its school complex dates from the 1930s. The Marne market, avenue Jean-Jaurès and rue Maurice-Arnoux, where the university and the ENS share a site, are its landmarks, not far from the Châtillon – Montrouge terminus. After lost keys, changing the cylinder is often enough, without touching the door.

To the south-east, place Jules-Ferry lines up artists’ studios built in 1930, and the Buffalo residence on rue Carvès carries the Architecture contemporaine remarquable label. Avenue du Fort brings together the Maurice-Genevoix secondary school and the Saint-Luc chapel, a stone’s throw from the school on rue d’Arcueil. Opened in 2022, Barbara station on line 4 has its Montrouge entrance on avenue Marx-Dormoy, at the corner of avenue de Verdun and avenue Henri-Ginoux, on the edge of Bagneux. The area still bears the mark of industrial Montrouge, which grew from 1925 onwards: former industrial buildings on avenue Henri-Ginoux and rue Périer are protected.
