An ordinary key can be copied without any formalities by any key cutter. A protected key cannot: every copy requires the card of ownership supplied with the cylinder, and is ordered from the manufacturer or its dealers.
It is the solution for offices, shops and flats where employees, contractors or successive occupants come and go: you keep the list of keys, and no copy circulates without your consent. Needs are not the same on rue Saint-Honoré, under the Rivoli arcades or in the streets of Les Halles.
Fashion houses, galleries and offices: when a team changes, we replace the cylinder and hand over new keys, without touching the lock if it is in good condition.
The flats above the arcades often change occupants. A protected-key cylinder stops copies held by previous occupants from still opening the door.
Law firms, notaries’ offices and publishing houses: we change the lock on the front door and, if you wish, those on the archive room or storeroom, using cylinders that open with the same key.
Small flats, flatshares, food shops: after lost keys or a flatmate moving out, a new cylinder is usually enough, and we bring one in the right length.

For an exact price, send a photo of the cylinder and of the key, engraved side up.
If the key is protected and you have kept the card, no copy can have been made without you; changing the cylinder settles the matter for good. With an ordinary key, there is no way of knowing how many copies exist: it is time to switch to a protected-key cylinder.
As long as you have the keys, the lock works normally; you simply won’t be able to order copies any more. Ask the manufacturer, who can sometimes issue a duplicate card on presentation of supporting documents; otherwise, a new cylinder comes with a new card.
The table above gives starting prices: a branded replacement cylinder starts at €380 incl. VAT, whereas a high-security Euro profile cylinder without a protected key costs €90 incl. VAT. The exact price depends on the lock and the length of the cylinder; we give it to you before we start.
If the lock closes properly and has not been forced, the cylinder is enough: it is the part the key goes into. The whole lock is changed when it is worn, damaged or too weak for the door, for example to upgrade to an A2P-certified multipoint lock.
