Short-term lets: the smart lock
Handing over keys to every guest means an appointment to keep and a spare that may never come back. With a smart lock, each stay gets its own code or phone access, valid only for the length of the booking.
The unit is usually fitted onto the existing lock, on the inside, without changing the door. You can track every opening from your phone and revoke an access whenever you like, for example once the cleaning has been done. The mechanical key can still be used as a backup. Can a smart lock be fitted on a security door?
Often, yes: the unit attaches on the inside, to the cylinder of the multipoint lock. It needs a compatible cylinder, which we replace if necessary. Send a photo of the lock, from inside the flat, so we can check.
What happens if the connection or the battery fails?
The door still opens with the mechanical key. Depending on the model, opening by phone also works over Bluetooth, close to the door, without an internet connection.
How much does it cost to install a smart lock?
The starting price for each model is shown in the table. The final price depends on the door and the cylinder required: we tell you before we start.
Should you change the cylinder between two long-term tenants?
It is advisable, because you don’t know how many copies the previous tenant had made. A new cylinder, from €90 incl. VAT, settles the matter; with a smart lock, you simply delete their access.
