Lock change in Paris 9

A sticking lock doesn’t always need replacing. In the 9th, where many doors are more than a century old, we start by adjusting and servicing, and only replace the cylinder or lock if it is worn. Price given before we come out, 24/7.

Adjust and service before replacing

A lock is adjusted on site: realigning the striking plate, resetting the hinges, cleaning and lubricating the cylinder with a suitable product, never ordinary oil, which clogs it up. If a part is worn, we show it to you before suggesting a replacement.

When the cylinder is too worn, we replace it with a high-security model of the same size; if it is the lock, we fit a model with the same dimensions so that the door does not have to be recut. The price is given before we start. Full replacement, lost keys, break-in: our lock change in Paris page covers each case.

What we check

  • The door: sagging, hinges, play in the frame.
  • The lock: bolts, springs, faceplate and fixings.
  • The cylinder: worn pins, dirt build-up, a length suited to the door.

From century-old doors to recent locks

In the 9th, the age of the building often tells us where the fault lies. Here is what we come across from one area to the next.

Nouvelle Athènes

Moulded Restoration-era doors, often repainted several times: the paint ends up catching on the striking plate or the bolts. Clearing the painted areas and an adjustment give the lock back its smooth action.

  • Rue de La Rochefoucauld
  • Rue Saint-Lazare
  • Rue de la Tour-des-Dames
  • Rue Chaptal

Lorette and rue des Martyrs

19th-century apartment buildings built to let, narrow staircases, front doors that have moved with the building. A sticking lock here often comes from a door sagging on its hinges.

  • Rue des Martyrs
  • Rue Notre-Dame-de-Lorette
  • Rue Clauzel
  • Rue Henry-Monnier

Opéra and boulevard Haussmann

In offices, a lock wears out with the comings and goings: several dozen openings a day wear a cylinder out far faster than in a home. Regular servicing avoids a breakdown on a Monday morning.

  • Boulevard Haussmann
  • Rue de Provence
  • Rue Taitbout
  • Rue de la Victoire

Trudaine and square d’Anvers

Large doors in Haussmann-era buildings, often fitted with a multipoint lock installed several decades ago. These locks can be adjusted and serviced; when the original cylinder is no longer available, we fit a compatible one.

Sticking lock: your questions

Describe the movement where it sticks, or film it: that is often the key to the diagnosis.

Can I put oil in a sticking lock?

Avoid cooking oil or ordinary penetrating oil: they trap dust and end up clogging the cylinder. A dry lubricant, graphite- or PTFE-based, works better. If the lock still resists, it is often the door that needs adjusting.

Does an adjustment cost less than a lock change?

Yes, generally: you only pay for the call-out, with no parts to replace. We give you the price before we come, based on your description or a photo. If a part turns out to be worn, we show you before suggesting a replacement.

Why does my lock stick mainly in winter?

The wood of the door swells with damp and the cold thickens lubricants: the door rubs and the striking plate no longer lines up. An adjustment that allows for the seasons usually solves the problem.

When does the cylinder really need changing?

When its pins are worn, when the key has play in it or when a key has been lost. A high-security Euro profile cylinder costs from €90 incl. VAT; a branded cylinder costs more.
