Pastry shops on rue des Martyrs, greengrocers on rue Cadet, boutiques on the Grands Boulevards: at opening time, the shutter often wakes up the whole building. We adjust and grease noisy shutters, and repair jammed ones, 24/7: unjamming from €280.

Metal shutter repair Paris 9

Shops in the 9th, street by street

From food streets to covered passages, every street has its own hours, and its shutters that go up early beneath residents’ windows.

Rue des Martyrs

Bakeries, pastry shops, cheesemongers and wine merchants open first thing in the morning beneath residential buildings: a shutter that bangs or squeaks can be heard throughout the stairwell. Adjustment and greasing get rid of most of the noise.

  • Rue des Martyrs
  • Rue Notre-Dame-de-Lorette
  • Rue Clauzel
  • Rue Hippolyte-Lebas

Rue Cadet and Faubourg-Montmartre

A partly pedestrianised shopping street, rue Cadet is lined with greengrocers and delis whose stalls come out every morning. The shutters here work hard: slats, guide rails and springs wear quickly.

  • Rue du Faubourg-Montmartre
  • Rue Richer
  • Rue de Montyon

Grands Boulevards and covered passages

In passage Jouffroy and passage Verdeau, shops often close with grilles or lightweight shutters, sheltered from the rain. On the boulevards, restaurants and theatres close late: we also carry out repairs at night.

  • Boulevard Montmartre
  • Passage Jouffroy
  • Passage Verdeau
  • Boulevard Haussmann

Pigalle and boulevard de Clichy

The bars, concert halls and instrument shops of rue Victor-Massé: shutters operated late at night, often motorised. A straining motor or a rubbing shutter can be adjusted before it breaks.

  • Rue Frochot
  • Boulevard de Clichy
  • Rue Jean-Baptiste-Pigalle

A shutter that squeaks, bangs or strains

The noise from a metal shutter almost always has a mechanical cause: dry or clogged guide rails, bent slats, badly balanced springs, a shaft that has worked loose. A full adjustment, with greasing of the moving parts, makes it run more smoothly and quietly.

We check the counterbalance springs, clean and grease the guide rails and the shaft, and straighten or replace any slats that rub. On a motorised shutter, we also check the motor and its limit switches. The price of the job is given to you before we start.

Where the noise comes from

  • A squeak: the guide rails or shaft need greasing.
  • Banging: bent slats or worn fixings.
  • A shutter that drops heavily: the springs need rebalancing.

Noisy or jammed shutter: your questions in the 9th

A recording of the noise, sent on WhatsApp, often helps us identify the part at fault.

The neighbours complain about the shutter’s noise in the morning: what can I do?

Have it adjusted: a well-balanced, greased shutter makes much less noise. On a motorised shutter, some soft-start motors also make the movement gentler.

Can I grease the shutter myself?

You can clean the guide rails and apply a suitable lubricant. Avoid thick grease, which traps dust, and do not touch the springs: they are under tension and dangerous to handle.

How often should a shutter be serviced?

Once a year for normal use; a shop that opens and closes several times a day would do well to have it done twice. We can come early, before you open.

My shutter has jammed at closing time: do you come out at night?

Yes, at any hour, so that your premises are not left open: we free the shutter or make the shop front secure, then the repair is carried out on the basis of a quote.
