Key switch, remote control: when the controls give out

On a motorised shutter, the fault does not always lie with the motor. A worn key switch, a remote control that has lost its settings or a control box damaged by rain is enough to stop the shutter. So the diagnosis starts with the controls, and only then the motor.

Depending on the diagnosis, we replace the key switch, reprogramme or change the remote controls, or repair the motor. For prestige shopfronts, a shutter with micro-perforated slats keeps the shop visible once it is closed, and the controls can be placed inside the shop.

Before you call us

  • Does the key turn in the switch? if it is stiff, the switch is often to blame.
  • Does the motor make a noise? a hum with no movement points to the motor or its limit switches.
  • Is the remote control flashing? a low battery is sometimes all it takes to explain the fault.

Shop shutters in the 8th: your questions

The key switch, the motor or the lock: describe what has stopped responding and we’ll bring the right part.

We’ve lost the keys to our key switch: does everything need changing?

No: only the key switch is replaced, with new keys. The motor and the shutter stay in place. If the shutter has been left open in the meantime, we can secure the shopfront.

Can the key switch be replaced with a remote control?

Yes, by adding a receiver to the motor’s control box. Many shopkeepers also keep a key switch, inside or outside, as a backup.

Is a micro-perforated shutter as strong as a solid one?

Micro-perforated slats are made of steel, like solid slats; their small holes let the shop window show through. For a shop exposed to impacts or break-in attempts, solid slats are more resistant. We advise you according to the street and the shopfront.

The shutter won’t come down at closing time: what should I do?

Don’t leave the premises open: call us, we come at any hour. If the shutter is motorised, don’t keep trying the key switch, as repeated attempts can overheat the motor.
